Ten foreign puppetry troupes and four Vietnamese troupes will meet at the third international puppetry festival in Hanoi from September 4-10.
The ten international troupes consist of The Key Theatre and Far Theatre (Israel), Art Troupes (Cambodia), Guangdong Province Pupet Art Theatre (China), Filippino puppetry troupe, Wayang Golex Ajen (Indonesia), Shan Pupet Theatre (Taiwan), Hunchangforn Pupet Group (Thailand), Cairo Pupet Theatre (Egypt), Kuka Istanbul (Turkey) and a troupe from Laos.
The four local troupes include: the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, the puppetry troupes of Ha Tinh and Dak Lak provinces.
The festival welcomes all forms of puppetry. Each troupe is allowed to perform one item, from 30-40 minutes.
The jury has five members, who are prestigious puppetry artists of Vietnam and other countries.
The festival will open tonight, September 4, at the Hanoi Opera House. After the opening ceremony, two Vietnamese troupes will perform.
The next shows will be held at the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre and the Army Theatre in Hanoi in the morning, on the afternoon and evening of September 5-9.
The closing ceremony will take place on the evening of September 10 at the Au Co Art Center.
Some troupes will also serve Vietnamese fans at Hong Ha, Vietnam Puppetry Theatre and the West Lake Park.
The festival is co-organized by the Performing Art Agency and the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre.
