Model Vu Nguyen Ha Anh’s appointment as UNICEF Vietnam’s Goodwill Ambassador has been extended by one year, UNICEF announced in a statement.
Lotta Sylwander, UNICEF Vietnam’s representative, praised the stunning and noble ambassador at an official gathering in Hanoi: “Since your initial appointment in August 2010, you have contributed in a unique manner to raising awareness of various issues related to children, including combating stigma and discrimination towards children affected by HIV and AIDS; promoting helmet wearing for children; and encouraging social and cultural change in relation to breastfeeding practices.
“Your engagement in these activities and your passion as a child rights’ advocate has contributed to drawing public attention to these issues and was highly welcomed by the young people of your country.”
Ha Anh, who has represented Vietnam with a touch of humility and class, was proud and honored by the extended role.
She said: “I believe all children deserve the chance to make something of their lives. I am committed to helping UNICEF empower children and young people in Vietnam to help them build a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their communities. It is an immense honor to be able to team up with UNICEF for one more year in its battle to ensure the future they want to Vietnam’s next generations.”
In the next 12 months Ha Anh will use her popularity and personal interest in children’s issues to support UNICEF’s mission to reach out to, and boost adolescents and young people’s participation in climate change, the prevention of all forms of discrimination, iodine deficiency disorders, the promotion of HIV and AIDS prevention, and digital safety and citizenship. She will also assist UNICEF’s engagement with the private sector in ensuring companies in Vietnam understand and take action on their responsibilities to respect and support children’s rights
