21 students from universities in the Republic of Korea have experienced volunteer activities at Yen Phuong commune primary school, Yen Lac district, the northern province of Vinh Phuc.
The programme was supported by RoK’s LS group and the Vietnam-RoK Cultural Exchange Center in Hanoi to promote cooperation and mutual understanding among people of the two countries. In one week, Korean and Vietnamese volunteer students made the refectory for over 300 day-boarders cleaner and more beautiful. They also repaired toilets, kitchens and the school grounds.
“When meeting and working with students as well as local people, I studied many things in life and Vietnamese people. If I have a chance, I will return to study more about Vietnamese culture and people,” said Lee Hyoek, the fourth-year Korean student.
Head of the Korean volunteer students’ delegation Kim Dae Seong said that the LS group had a factory in the northern port city of Hai Phong. The development of the LS group was always associated with the development of Vietnam. Kim Dae Seong also said that more than 3,000 Korean students submitted applications to the LS group to come Vietnam as volunteers. This proves that Korean young people care about the development of Vietnam as well as the promotion of relations between the two countries.
Although returning to RoK, the care and love of local people and students in the commune will be warm memories for the Korean volunteer students. “ We will be goodwill ambassadors to carry Vietnamese culture and the warmness of Vietnamese people to the world,” said Kim Dae Seong.
“The volunteer activities by Korean students not only leave a deep impression on local students, but also leave a beautiful image among teachers and students’ parents in the commune,” said Dang Thi Be, head of Yen Phuong primary school./.
