(TITC) On July 5, in Lac Village, Mai Chau District, Hoa Binh Province, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), World Vision and Australian Aid organized training course on ensuring safety for children in tourism activities. It is a part of Project Childhood from 2012 till 2014 in order to enhance capacity for prevention of child sexual exploitation in tourism.
Under message “Together we can prevent child sexual tourism” and “Vietnam say No to child sexual tourism”, Mr. Vu Van Thanh, Deputy Director of Hotel Department (VNAT) said: Tourism development without active preventive measures may result in increased risk of social evils, including sexual abuse of children in tourism sites. Director of Hoa Binh province’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Department Bui Ngoc Lam belived that this project as well as the training course are practical and meaningfull to the community. In recent years, Lac village has attracted a large number of domestic and international tourists. Local authority is concerned about the fact that some tourists come here to look for adolescents sexual tourism.
In the training course, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hoi, Project Childhood’s coordinator disseminated useful information in this area to tourism businesses in Lac village.
VNAT and relevant agencies will continue to implement similar courses in Lao Cai Province and Hai Phong City in the coming time.
