Welcome to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos and being one of the quietest capital cities in the world, far away from the bustle and hustle of other Asian capitals. On arrival at Vientiane airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour to discover the hidden charms of Vientiane, begins at the serene Wat Sisaket, then continue on to the nearby Wat Phra Keo. Used as a religious museum, Wat Phra Keo displays a collection of both Lao and Khmer works of art. Also nearby, is the Presidential Palace. Although you are not allowed to visit inside, it is a good glimpse in to the town’s colonial past as this building formerly served as the French governor’s palace. Visit the Patuxay monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe, where you can climb the stairs to the roof for sweeping panoramic views of the city. Next, your tour takes you to That Luang, the holiest site in Laos. In the evening, enjoy dinner and a show in Phatoke Laodeum. This former capital has a rich variety of architecture from the old facades of French colonial homes to the glittering temple rooftops. We embark on a tour of this enthralling town visiting Wats Xieng Thong, the Golden City monastery. Dating back to the 16th century this splendid temple is considered to be the finest in Laos. While in Luang Prabang, you may observe the morning alms giving ceremony where monks walk through the town in single file carrying their alms bowls to allow lay people the opportunity to offer alms and gain merit. Offerings by the people usually comprised of sticky rice, fruit or simple traditional snacks. Known as “binthabat” in Lao, this is a sacred religious ceremony. You may participate and photograph the whole process, however, this must be done in a respectful manner to ensure that there is no disruption to this ancient tradition.
