Cu Chi Travel Guide

The town of Cu Chi, approximately 70km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City , has now become a district of greater HCMC and been known as the best site for a massive supply base where the VC mounted their operations of the Tet Offensive in 1968. And Cu Chi Tunnels network represents the will, the intelligence and the pride of Cu Chi people as well as symbolizes the revolutionary heroism of Vietnam. With such glory history, Cu Chi has officially been cited as "Vietnam's land of steel and bastion of bronze".

Cu Chi Tunnels:

The Cu Chi Tunnels are an impressive network of tunnels with a length of over 250 km. This strategic place was used by 15,000 Viet Cong fighters during the war. This main axis system has many branches connecting to underground hideouts, shelters, and entrances to other tunnels. The tunnels are between 0.5 to 1 m wide, just enough space for a person to walk along by bending or dragging. However, parts of the tunnels have been modified to accommodate visitors. The upper soil layer is between 3 to 4 m thick and can support the weight of a 50-ton tank and the damage of light cannons and bombs. The underground network provided sleeping quarters, meeting rooms, hospitals, and other social rooms. Today visitors can watch the movie of the war time, have time to inspect the tunnel site, visit the gates, traps, underground hospitals, worships, dine on steamed manioc, pressed rice with sesame and salt and have better understanding how life is going under the ground
Travel Tips
Not much to prepare for the trip except a hat, a bottle of mineral water and comfortable walking shoes.
