If you have limited Vietnam travel duration, flying is the most convenient way to
travel. Vietnam Airlines flies to most places and it is essential to book flights
early especially on popular routes. Other internal airlines are reliable but can
be infrequent to the less popular destinations.
Indochina Travel Service can assist
you with flight reservation. Prices are fixed by the National Aviation Authority.

Travel by boat is perhaps one of the most difficult ways to get around. Despite
Laos’ many rivers, major boat routes are fewer than in the past, and these days,
people tend to travel by road where possible. Timetables for boats are less readily
available and the changing water levels also make travel by boat difficult at certain
times of year. Slow boats are very basic and often uncomfortable. And it’s not recommended
to take speedboats, a dangerous means of transportation.
There are only one or two
luxury cruisers that are available in Laos that connects Luang Prabang, Pakbeng
and Houei Xay (Luangsay Cruise) or Pakse and Champasack (Wat Phou Cruise).
